Silverton High School cancels classes, events after multiple threats
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Silverton High School has canceled classes and athletic events for Friday after receiving multiple threats.
Silverton police say they are confident that the threats are isolated to the high school and classes at all other schools in the Silver Falls District will remain open with increased police presence at all locations.
The initial threat came Thursday via a computer-generated phone call.
"While police staff were taking the call, the school resource officer was in contact with high school security, and officers immediately responded to the high school to ensure the safety of students and staff. No threat was found, and the school was released as regularly scheduled," police said.
However, officers were made aware of another implied threat to the high school on Friday, which led the district to close the school.
"Our students, families, staff, and community’s safety is the highest priority for the school district and police department. We will continue to work together to keep all parties safe and promptly informed," Silverton police said.
This comes one week after the school was placed on lockdown after reports of an active shooter. Police said no threat was found.
