Saratoga man pleads guilty in child sex abuse image case
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Saratoga man pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court Wednesday. Nathaniel Chaput, 27, admitted to producing and owning numerous images depicting the sexual exploitation of children.
In February, Chaput was arrested by state police after law enforcement executed a search warrant at his Saratoga home. The search warrant stemmed from an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
According to troopers, Chaput was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child before being taken to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility to be held on a bail of $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond.
Chaput pleaded guilty to the promoting the sexual performance charge. He is scheduled for sentencing on June 4 at 2 p.m.
According to New York State law, if convicted, he faces up to 7 years in prison, a probation term of 10 years, a substantial fine and must register as a sex offender.
