4 firefighters sustain minor injuries in Saugerties fire
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Centerville and Cedar Grove Fire Departments responded to a reported house fire at 60 Brink Road in Saugerties Wednesday afternoon. According to the Centerville Fire Department, 4 firefighters were treated on scene for minor injuries.
The fire was first reported at 12:30 p.m. as a fully involved fire with possible entrapment. Once the first crews arrived two minutes later, they immediately requested mutual aid.
According to the department, crews reported finding a three-story wood frame building with a heavy fire throughout and began to attack from multiple angles. "Engine 1 arrived on scene and crews stretched multiple hand lines to the 1st and 2nd floors while primary searches were taking place," the department said.
A relative confirmed to crews that the house was vacant at the time of the fire. According to the department, primary searches of the house were all negative, but crews did rescue two cats from inside the house.
"At 13:19 (1:19 p.m.) the fire was declared under control with remaining hot spots on the roofline. Crews from several departments operated for several hours knocking any remaining hotspots and completing extensive overhaul," the department said.
The four firefighters were treated on scene and released by Diaz Ambulance. All units were back in service at 5:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Centerville Fire Department was assisted by Glasco Fire, Diaz Ambulance, Ulster Hose Fire Department, Mt. Marion Fire Department, Saxton Fire, Saugerties Fire Department, Palenville Fire, Kiskatom Fire, as well as Saugerties Police, Ulster County Sheriffs and New York State Police.
