Trump blocked Israel plan to strike Iranian Nuclear Sites, Report says
Trump reportedly blocked Israel’s plans to strike Iranian nuclear facilities, opting for diplomacy to address the nuclear crisis instead.
The New York Times reported that U.S. President Donald Trump recently prevented Israel’s plan to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, opting for diplomatic negotiations instead.
According to U.S. officials and sources familiar with the matter, Israel had developed plans to strike Iran’s nuclear sites, including the Natanz facility, aiming to delay Iran’s ability to produce nuclear weapons for at least one year.
The plans required U.S. military support, not only to defend Israel from potential Iranian retaliation but also to ensure the success of the attack. However, internal disagreements within the Trump administration between hardliners supporting military action and others skeptical of its success and the risk of a broader war led to the president’s decision to halt the attack.
The New York Times report highlighted that Israel believed the timing was right for an attack, given the weakening of Iran’s proxy forces like Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the destruction of its air defense systems.
However, Trump, citing the risks of escalating tensions and the possibility of a wider conflict, preferred diplomacy. He told reporters, “Everyone thinks Israel will attack Iran with our help, but I prefer that it doesn’t happen. If an agreement is reached, Israel won’t need to bomb.”
This report comes as talks on Iran’s nuclear program began earlier this week in Oman, with the next round of discussions scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy.
The shift from military action to diplomacy reflects the complexity of international relations and the cautious approach taken by the Trump administration, despite pressures from Israel. While tensions remain high, the diplomatic route could offer a more stable resolution to the longstanding nuclear dispute.
