Austin FC celebrates Earth Day at Pease Park
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin FC took to the woods of Pease Park Tuesday to celebrate Earth Day a little early.
Fifty Austin FC employees and partners spent the morning picking up trash in and around the popular city park. Not only did they spend the morning cleaning up the park, but they also made sure to leave their mark by planting some new trees.
"We want to make sure we're using Earth Day as a high water mark, an opportunity to serve. But certainly, we know that outside of Earth Day, we have to take care of our environment. So, we make sure we're cleaning up and doing well while we're trying to do good," Austin FC Vice President of Community Impact Trennis Jones told KXAN.
Tuesday's clean-up and tree planting session is all part of the Evergreen effort -- an initiative the team started in 2024 to focus on sustainability, as well as improve the environment year-round.
"Doing a better job, I think, of making sure that we can tell that story to allow people to join us in these efforts that are so essential to our community," Jones told KXAN in April 2024.
