SAN RAFAEL
Santa Venetia man
suspected of assault
Marin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Santa Venetia man who allegedly harassed people at a park and later assaulted a relative.
Deputies were notified around 7:30 p.m. Sunday about the incident at Pueblo Park. They tried to contact the suspect at a relative’s home on nearby Descanso Way. The suspect was prohibited from being there, due to the terms of his probation, Deputy Stephanie Ware said.
The suspect fled into the residence, authorities said. He later came outside and threw an object at an elderly relative, Ware said. The victim was not injured.
Nick Spinner, 34, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police, cruelty to a dependent adult, and kidnapping. He was booked into no-bail custody at the Marin County Jail.
TIBURON
Decedent identified
in case from 1966
DNA tests have identified a woman found dead in Tiburon nearly 60 years ago.
A hunter found her remains on a cliff near Paradise Drive on Dec. 18, 1966. Investigators could not determine who she was or how she died, and the case remained cold for decades, said sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Schermerhorn.
In 2022, the California Department of Justice submitted forensic evidence to Othram, a DNA lab in Texas. Othram recently identified the woman as Dorothy Jean Williams, who was seen at a fire station three months before her body was discovered, said Dan Miller, a company representative. Williams said she was stranded and lacked money for a taxi ride, and left the station after firefighters would not let her sleep there, Miller said.
Williams is buried at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery and Mortuary in San Rafael.
Marin nonprofit
to host nature day
WildCare will host a family nature event on April 26.
Attendees can join a naturalist-led hike, meet live animals, use binoculars to watch birds from the Lyford House, and dissect owl pellets.
The event is a tribute to the late Elizabeth “Mrs. T” Terwilliger, a naturalist and educator who helped protect numerous wildlife habitats from development across Marin County.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary, 376 Greenwood Beach Road.
Admission and street parking are free.
