Bruins Forward Morgan Geekie Named NESN’s 2025 7th Player
BOSTON — Morgan Geekie was one of the limited bright spots of the Boston Bruins 2024-25 campaign.
The Black and Gold faithful recognized the B’s left winger for the career numbers he put up during a disappointing season for Boston and selected him as the honoree of the 7th Player Award.
Entering the regular season finale at TD Garden against the New Jersey Devils, Geekie had tallied career highs in goals (32), assists (24) and points (56) across 76 games for the Bruins. His goals and points this season rank him second on the Bruins behind only his linemate David Pastrnak, who leads the team with 42 goals, 62 assists and 104 points. His four game-winning goals are tied with Pastrnak for second, behind only team leader Pavel Zacha, who notched five during the campaign.
The award is given each year to the unsung hero on the team, a player who works hard every day for the good of the team without any expectation of being recognized.
Looking back on the list of winners since that 1968-69 season, you’ll find several players who won it before becoming Bruins legends, including future Hall of Famers Ray Bourque and Cam Neely.
Among the Bruins who eventually achieved legendary status in Beantown and also took home the award are Derek Sanderson (1971-72), Terry O’Reilly (1974-75), Rick Middleton (1978-79) Tim Thomas (2005-06 and 2006-07), Tuukka Rask (2009-10) and David Krejci (2008-09).
Pastrnak is the only current Bruin to win the award twice, during the 2014-15 and 2016-17 campaigns. Charlie McAvoy (2017-18), Jeremy Swayman (2021-22) and Zacha (2022-23) round out the players still donning the Spoked-B to capture the honor.
