Amorim suffers massive blow ahead of season-defining Lyon clash, 23yo ace set to miss rest of the season
Manchester United have been dealt a brutal blow ahead of their do-or-die Europa League clash with Lyon on Thursday.
According to the BBC, Man United star Joshua Zirkzee will miss several weeks with a hamstring injury that could rule him out for the rest of the season.
Zirkzee led United’s attack in the 4-1 defeat against Newcastle United last weekend.
The Dutch forward pulled up in clear discomfort in the 55th minute, sparking immediate concern from the bench and fans alike.
Those fears now seem to have materialised, with Zirkzee expected to join Lisandro Martinez on the sidelines for the remainder of the campaign.
Amad Diallo remains out of action too, leaving United increasingly short of attacking firepower.
Marcus Rashford and Antony left Old Trafford for their respective loan spells at Aston Villa and Real Betis in January.
United head coach Ruben Amorim is now left with only two senior forwards at his disposal – Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.
Promising youngster Chido Obi recently made his first-team debut, but he is ineligible for Europa League action.
Zirkzee may have started slowly after his move from Bologna, but he has blossomed into a key figure recently.
His graceful link-up play and calm presence in the final third have brought a much-needed balance to United’s attack.
The 23-year-old has seven goals and three assists to his name in 48 games across all competitions.
Hojlund is likely to replace him at the number nine spot against Lyon in the second leg.
Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes could support him as number 10s.
