Huge Man Utd blow as Joshua Zirkzee in danger of missing rest of season after injury against Newcastle
JOSHUA ZIRKZEE is set to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
The Netherlands international was subbed in the second half of United’s thrashing at the hands of Newcastle last weekend after pulling up.
And it’s claimed the Dutchman is in “danger” of missing the rest of the season with the ailment.
That’s according to the BBC, who claim the 23-year-old is set to be on the sidelines for “several weeks.”
The Beeb also claim there is “some doubt” whether the former Bologna man will be able to play again this campaign due to the “severity” of the hamstring strain.
United gaffer Ruben Amorim is expected to provide clarity on the forward’s fitness on Wednesday ahead of the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Lyon.
The Portuguese – who replaced Erik ten Hag at the old Trafford helm last November – wasn’t too optimistic about Zirkzee’s chances of playing against the French giants on Thursday.
He said: “We had to make rotation because we are trying to recover in two days from each game.
“But trying to win this game also.
“Josh, I think he will be out for some games. So, let’s focus on the next one [against Lyon].”
Zirkzee was one of United’s few bright sparks in their 4-1 loss to Carabao Cup holders Newcastle.
And he was equally as impressive in the 2-2 draw against Lyon last Thursday, giving the Red Devils the lead in the 88th minute.
