Leander police say report of attempted abduction 'unfounded'
LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — A report of a stranger who tried to entice a girl into his vehicle in Leander was determined to be "unfounded," police said.
The Leander Police Department initially reported that a juvenile girl was walking on Artesian Springs Crossing, in the Crystal Springs neighborhood, Friday afternoon when a man pulled up in a vehicle next to her and yelled at her to get inside. The child ran away and the vehicle sped off, police said in a press release Friday.
In an update posted Tuesday, LPD said an investigation began immediately, and detectives and officers canvassed the area and spoke to people involved.
"Through this investigation, it was determined that the alleged incident was unfounded," police said. "This case is now closed and there is no ongoing threat to the community regarding this matter."
Leander police are still looking for a suspect in an unrelated "possible attempted child abduction" that occurred earlier this month.
That incident happened April 2 at an apartment complex on Lakeline Boulevard. Anyone who finds anything suspicious or has footage to share was asked to contact Sgt. George with LPD at ageorge@leandertx.gov.
Police in Round Rock and Hutto are also investigating attempted child abduction reports that happened Friday. The Round Rock incident involved a report of a man who attempted to "lure children into a van." Hutto police said the incident in that city involved a child who was approached by two men in a van. One of those men attempted to grab the child through the open side door of the van, police said.
