Explosion in Pakistan kills 3, injures 16
An explosion in Balochistan, Pakistan, killed three police officers and injured 16 others, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the province.
A police vehicle in Pakistan’s Balochistan province was targeted in a deadly explosion on Tuesday, April 15, killing three police officers and injuring at least sixteen others, according to local media reports.
The blast occurred at approximately 8:30 AM local time as a police truck was moving along the Dasht Mastung road, about 40 kilometers from Quetta, the provincial capital.
Local officials stated that the bomb was planted on a motorcycle and detonated remotely, causing significant damage to the police vehicle. The force of the explosion was so intense that several injured individuals, including two in critical condition, were rushed to hospitals in Quetta for urgent treatment.
Police officials confirmed that the attack was a deliberate targeting of security forces. However, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the perpetrators behind this act of violence.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, has long faced instability due to the presence of separatist groups such as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and extremist organizations like Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). These groups frequently target security forces, infrastructure, and civilians.
In 2024 alone, Balochistan has witnessed several deadly attacks, including a bombing in November that killed seven people and wounded sixteen, and another explosion at Quetta railway station that left more than twenty dead. Many of these attacks have been attributed to Baloch separatist factions.
The recent attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan and the persistent threat posed by militant groups. Pakistani authorities are under increasing pressure to bolster counterterrorism efforts and improve safety for both civilians and security personnel operating in conflict-prone regions.
