The former tight end has two sons who also played in the NFL.
Don Hasselbeck had a nine year career in the NFL, and won the Super Bowl once during his career.
One of his sons, Matt, sadly announced that Don Hasselbeck had passed away after going into cardiac arrest in his home on Monday, April 14.
Hasselbeck died at the age of 70.
Despite being a tight end, both of Hasselbeck’s sons were quarterbacks, with Matt Hasselbeck going on to have a lengthy NFL career.
Who was Don Hasselbeck?
Don Hasselbeck was an American NFL player who was a tight end for a number of teams in the league.
He was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft in 1977 by the New England Patriots.
He played for the New England Patriots between 1977-1983, then spent time at Los Angeles Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders), Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.
Hasselbeck was traded to the Raiders from the Patriots early in the 1983 season.
The tight end won his first and only Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Raiders as they beat Washington Reskins 38-9 in Super Bowl XVIII.

Don Hasselbeck’s sons Matt and Tim both played as quarterback’s during their NFL careers.
Matt Hasselbeck had a career than spanned between 1998 and 2015, playing for the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts.
While at Seattle Seahawks, Matt started in the Super Bowl following the 2005 season, but the Seahawks lost 21-10 to Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL.
He was given the Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor, to honor how much he contributed to the side.
Tim Hasselbeck had a shorter NFL career, playing as part of the offseason or practice squad for Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles between 2001-02 before playing in the NFL.
In 2002, he joined the Berlin Thunder, and went on to play for the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins (now Washington Commanders), New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals between 2002-07.
While at Berlin Thunder, Tim won the World Bowl X as his side beat Rhein Fire 26-20 in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Tim went on to become a sports analyst, working for Fox and ESPN.

The former tight end sadly passed away after going into cardiac arrest at his home on April 14, 2025.
His son, Matt Hasselbeck, took to social media to say: “He was a great husband, father, grandfather, friend, coach, player, coworker, artist, mentor, and storyteller
“Despite being an All-American at Colorado and a Super Bowl Champion with the Raiders, what we are most proud of is the leader he was for our family.
“There is a 6’ 7” hole in our hearts. He will be so missed by so many. We are beyond grateful that he was our dad and look forward to Heaven and being all together again.”
