'We are struggling': Georgetown FD announces celebration of life for firefighter who died in crash
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Georgetown community is grieving the loss of a city firefighter who died in a motorcycle crash last week.
On Monday, the Georgetown Fire Department identified the firefighter as Kurt Lentz.
The agency announced on social media that a celebration of life is happening at 10 a.m. Friday at Celebration Church, located at 601 Westinghouse Road in Georgetown.
"As a close-knit fire family, we are struggling through this loss. During the coming days and weeks, we are focusing our hearts, prayers, and support to Kurt’s wife, son, and family. We are asking you to honor the family’s privacy during this challenging time," the fire department said Monday.
The crash happened on April 11 around 9 a.m. on US-29, west of Wolf Ranch Parkway, according to the city of Georgetown.
According to the city, the firefighter, later identified as Lentz, was off duty and was riding a motorcycle home. The city said he wore a helmet at the time of the crash.
Lentz was taken to the Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital, where he died around 10 a.m., according to the city.
"Kurt was proud to serve the City of Georgetown, and we are equally proud to honor his life and service," the fire department said. "On behalf of the family, we sincerely thank you for your continued love, prayers, and support."
