New Iberia man arrested in connection to arson at vacant house
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- State Fire Marshal officials have arrested a man for allegedly setting a fire that destroyed a vacant New Iberia home.
Officials said they arrested Jessie Collson, 36, for his connection to the New Iberia fire.
The New Iberia Fire Department said they responded shortly before 6 a.m., today, to a fire at
1703 Juanita Street in New Iberia. Officials said when they arrived, the abandoned house was fully engulfed in flames.
State Fire Marshal officials determined Collson was living in a lean-to that was against the back of the house. Officials said an investigation revealed that Collson started a fire inside the lean-to, and it got out of control and spread to the home, destroying both structures.
Collson was sent to an Iberia Parish jail on one count each of aggravated arson and criminal trespass for the fire.
This investigation is ongoing.
