Family honors the life of Breaux Bridge man after tragic bus accident
BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (KLFY)- The family of 38-year-old Arthur St. Amant Joubert is now speaking out to News 10 after Joubert's death. Joubert lost his life on Thursday after his car collided with a school bus.
"I was not expecting to hear my baby brother's name," said Tiffany Begneaud, Arthur's older sister. "I immediately just started screaming and then I just fell to the ground."'
Officials with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says Joubert was traveling northbound on Poche Bridge Road when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a school bus traveling southbound. Joubert died from his injuries. Occupants of the school bus had no injuries.
Begneaud says after hearing the news about Arthur, she had to inform her nieces of what took place.
"They asked me if Uncle Arthur was alright, I said no baby he's not, the doctors they tried everything, they really tried, but we lost him," said Begneaud.
To honor Joubert's memory, family and close friends held a balloon release on Sunday. The color of the balloons were orange and blue. Joubert leaves behind his fiancé, and four children, one of which is a 2-month-old baby.
"His children are having a hard time really grasping and understanding that daddy's not coming back, but it was great to see everybody, and we all talked about him, and we just remembered him and shared stories," said Begneaud. "After that, we gathered for a picture, and let the balloons go."
Begneaud says while the family still has many questions about what led to the crash, they are relieved Joubert is now at peace.
"I've always been one to believe that God has his reasons for everything, even the bad things," said Begneaud. "We may not know what that reason is ever, but God had his reasons to take my brother that day and I know my grandfather was probably right there to walk him straight up to heaven."
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says the crash is still under investigation.
