Congressman Cleo Fields continues district tour in Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Louisiana's 6th District Representative Cleo Fields is touring his district to meet with constituents, and earlier today, he made a stop in Lafayette. Fields says it's important to him to meet the people in his district.
"People want to talk to their members of Congress," Fields said. "I want to talk to them, and I want to hear what they have to say most importantly."
Congressman Fields invited the public to attend a town hall meeting he held during his district tour. Fields hosts town meetings to answer questions people may have about the current climate of the state and federal economy. He says some of the things his constituents are concerned about are tariffs, federal cuts and challenges America is facing.
"They're here to talk about all of these federal employees that are being cut from the payroll, talk about education, FEMA and a host of other things," he said. "Medicaid in particular...I mean, Louisiana is a state that leans very heavily on Medicaid."
Fields has been touring his district to get input and hear from communities on how to serve them better. He says he thinks it's the best way to serve people by finding out what impacts them, and how he can better represent the people of his district.
"I'm here to take questions from members of the community and respond to them and learn what they have to tell me and take it back to Washington to try to represent them adequately," he said.
