Inside Geri Horner’s seceret plans to fight back from year of hell – and it could see shock career relaunch away from UK
SHE shot to fame across the pond almost 30 years ago as part of hot Brit pop export the Spice Girls.
And now Geri Horner is doing it all again – but this time without her bandmates.
The Sun can reveal that former pop princess Geri has won acclaim in the US courtesy of her Rosie Frost young adult novels – and they’ve been such a hit, she’s secretly met with Hollywood execs to discuss turning her book trilogy into a movie.
An insider told The Sun: “Geri has had meetings with film bosses over the past month and there have been serious discussions about bringing her book trilogy to the big screen.
“They see real promise in the stories and believe a movie adaptation is a real possibility.
“If a deal is struck, Geri would act as a consultant, she won’t be involved in the actual making of the movies as she’s happy to leave that to the experts. But it’s certainly an exciting time for her.”
Being able to throw herself into this project has been just the escape Geri needed after going through a year she’d rather forget.
Her F1 boss husband Christian Horner, 51, was accused of alleged “coercive behaviour” towards an anonymous employee last year, sparking two independent investigations which ultimately cleared him.
Geri also had to weather further unwelcome attention when Christian was later accused of ‘sexting’ a female colleague.
And while Geri publicly stood by her husband, she’s thrilled that’s now in the past and she can focus on more positive things like her own career and passions.
Geri, 52, is currently Stateside on a promo tour to mark the release of the second book in the trilogy, Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen.
The first, Rosie Frost: Ice on Fire, made the New York Best Seller list in 2023 and there’s confidence the follow up will be just as well received.
The books centre around teenage heroine Rosie navigating through a fantastical world featuring extinct creatures brought back to life, searching for resolution following the loss of her mother.
It’s “Girl Power for the next generation,” according to Geri and she’s pushing the message far and wide under her writing name, Geri Halliwell-Horner.
She’s made notable appearances on high rating shows including The View, Good Morning America and The Kelly Clarkson Show, as well as school tours, in a bid to tap into the lucrative youth market.
‘No snootiness’
Her ability to be booked on such big shows is just another reminder of how huge the Spice Girls were in America and how well loved the girlband remains, which is why Geri’s bandmates Victoria Beckham and Mel B, in particular, have managed to build careers across the pond.
The insider continued: “The US really embraced the Spice Girls and Geri has really benefited from that.
“There is no snootiness about her becoming an author, either. That’s just not the vibe in America as they have a ‘anyone can do anything’ attitude, which is a mantra reflective of Geri’s.
“It’s such a welcoming environment and Geri can promote her book without any sneering that she’s a former pop star.”
Mum-of-two Geri previously released a series of Ugenia Lavender children’s books as well as two autobiographies.
The third book in her Rosie Frost trilogy is currently in development.
Her 18-year-daughter Bluebell, who she recently revealed has been officially adopted by her F1 boss husband Christian Horner – the father of her seven-year-old son Monty, also had the writing bug and is studying literature at university.
Mapping out a new career
Asked recently what draws her into writing, Geri said: “I’ve always loved writing. I’ve always been a massive reader. I studied theatre — Stanislavski — and English literature before I embarked on my music career, which was still being creative with words.
“When you write a song, you’re finding the words that maybe someone [else] can’t find in themselves. It’s storytelling, but in a shot of espresso, whereas writing a novel is a feast.”
But while Geri has mapped out a new career for herself these days away from her popstar era, the never ending will-they-won’t-they saga of the Spice Girls’ comeback has taken centre stage once again – due to a significant landmark in the band’s history looming.
During her US TV show appearances Geri was predictably asked about her future plans for the Spice Girls, given it will be 30 years since the band released debut single Wannabe in 2026.
Her stock answer remains “if you hear something, it will be from the five of us,” indicating she’s not spearheading the reunion like she has done historically.
There have been rumours Geri’s passion for the Spice Girls has cooled in recent years, perhaps down to a reported feud with bandmate Mel B who’s made some ill-judged comments, including a claim the singer has been lying about her age and “no-one has seen her passport” to prove it.
But according to a source close to the band, Geri has no issues with Mel.
The source said: “There’s no problem between Mel and Geri, that’s the bottom line.
“Like all bandmates, they have their ups and downs, but nothing at the level which would stop a reunion from happening.”
While Victoria, 50, remains predictably tight-lipped about the band’s return, likewise Emma Bunton, 49, Mel B and Mel C are somewhat more upbeat about a reunion.
Speaking last month, Mel C, 51, said: “It’s 30 years next year since the release of Wannabe. We have to do something special.
“Obviously I can’t say too much but we are talking about things. Hopefully a nice little world tour!”
Mel B, 49, said days earlier: “I get so excited on stage with my girls, I end up running round the whole stage, I kind of lose myself.”
When asked directly if the band will reunite, she said: “I’m hoping so. You know me, I’m always saying ‘Yeah we’re going on tour tomorrow’.”
But if the reunion fails to materialise, it won’t be the end of the world for Geri.
She’ll just focus on spicing up your bookshelf instead.
