‘Awards Magnet’: ‘Hacks,’ ‘The Last of Us’ are back for more Emmy glory
It's been a big week for the HBO and Max family. Two of its shows wrapped up their seasons (The White Lotus, The Pitt), and another two have kicked off their new seasons (Hacks, The Last of Us). Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss all four and their Emmy potential.
Hacks returned with its fourth season on Thursday with glowing reviews. As the reigning Best Comedy Series champ, the show has a target on its back now, but it remains in first place in the Gold Derby odds to defend its crown, as does Jean Smart, who's aiming to maintain her win streak for the series in Best Comedy Actress. But will Hannah Einbinder finally take home the gold? She, too, is in first in Best Comedy Supporting Actress. And how will Hacks stack up against new kid on the block The Studio, which has now climbed to fourth place in the series rankings?
Over in drama, The White Lotus concluded its most polarizing season yet last week with multiple deaths and a monologue moment for Carrie Coon that has the internet (but not her) screaming "Emmy!" Meanwhile, The Last of Us has launched its second season, which could also wind up divisive as the season only partially adapts the second video game of the franchise. But is Isabela Merced, not Kaitlyn Dever, the supporting actress contender to watch out for? The Last of Us and The White Lotus are second and third, respectively, in the Best Drama Series odds (Severance is first), but The Pitt is hot on their heels. The buzzy medical drama wrapped up its freshman season on Thursday on the upswing and currently sits in fourth place. What if The Pitt is the show everyone can agree on?
Plus: Will there be an under-predicted Best Comedy Series nominee?
