Witnesses said an electric BMW i3 had come to a standstill with its airbags deployed after a driver slammed on the brakes to avoid a crash on the A19, north of the North East city.
Phone footage shot by fan Joeanne Collis shows new England cap Burn, 32, climbing from his own car to join two other men.
Her nine-year-old son Reuben-Joh, nine, can be heard asking: “Mum, is that actually Dan Burn?”
She replies: “It is, aye. Absolute legend.”
Full-time carer Joeanne, 40, from Blyth, told The Sun: “Dan is from round here, so everyone knows him.
“It just proves what a top man he is.
“The car was small so he towered above it.”
It was an all-action weekend for Burn — yesterday he played in the home game against Manchester United.
