Nikki Gil reveals daughter was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease
MANILA, Philippines – Nikki Gil took to Instagram on Monday, April 14, to share that her daughter Maddie was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease.
“Maddie was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease — something we had never even heard of. And seeing our little girl in pain, hooked to IVs, enduring tests and meds, was the hardest thing we’ve ever gone through as parents,” Gil wrote.
Mostly affecting children below five years old, Kawasaki disease “can cause damage to the heart and blood vessels.” According to reliable medical websites, the exact cause of Kawasaki disease is not known and it is not contagious.
Those diagnosed with Kawasaki disease would typically have a fever lasting five days or more. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, other possible symptoms include rashes, swollen lymph glands, red and swollen hands and feet, red and irritated whites of eyes, and irritated and inflamed mouth, lips, and throat.
“But even in the scariest moments, God showed up — in the peace He gave, the people He sent, and the healing He allowed. We give Him all the glory for carrying us through and for Maddie’s recovery,” Gil continued.
The singer-actress also shared that they were able to bring Maddie home already after she was discharged from the hospital. Maddie will continue her recovery.
Born in October 2021, Maddie is Gil’s second child with her husband BJ Albert.
