Kyren Lacy dead at 24: Top NFL prospect dies just days before Draft following arrest for negligent homicide
NFL prospect Kyren Lacy has sadly passed away aged 24.
The former LSU wide receiver is understood to have taken his own life.
Lacy’s death comes just days before the 2025 Draft and his appearance in court accused of negligent homicide.
The Thibodaux-born ace was considered as a future NFL star after impressing at college.
He recorded the most touchdowns and second most catches and receiving yards for the Tigers last season.
But Lacy was arrested on January 13 after a warrant was issued for his capture following a fatal car crash on December 17 that killed Herman Hall in Louisiana.
The prosecution says the 78-year-old man died after a head-on collision with the player, who was speeding and then fled the scene.
Lacy was charged with negligent homicide as well as hit-and-run driving with serious injury or death and reckless operation with accident.
He was released on $151,000 bond and declared for the Draft just two days after the crash.
Lacy’s attorney Matthew Ory claims the footballer is not responsible for the death of Hall.
He states that the crash happened in front of Lacy, who then drove around it and continued his journey.
Tributes have paid tribute to Lacy with a friend writing: “Why would u leave me bro? I’m so lost for words… I went to sleep four times and woke up to see if that was a dream.
“All the talks, all the tears, everything, you know God had us. You know we protected everyday we wake up and go to sleep.
“I promise I tell you this everyday, i prayed for your career, your health, everything every time I laid my head on that pillow at night.
“Even if I fell asleep without saying my prayers I wake up in middle of night and still talk to God for you!!!
“The dreams we had started to kick in, you making it to NFL & me playing ball Overseas!!!
“Our dreams was coming to reality… we talked and cried and laughed it off everyday bro!!! I can’t f***ing do this s*** without you… watch over me & don’t let me quit for nothing!!! I can’t forget. You was a legend.”
