Ohio State concludes spring practices with Scarlet-Gray game
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Ohio State concluded four weeks of practices with its annual spring game as three different quarterbacks made their case to be the next starter.
Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage at Ohio Stadium saw offense (scarlet) take on defense (gray), with Scarlet winning 50-31 in front of 40,136 fans.
Third-year veteran Lincoln Keinholz took the opening snap at quarterback but Julian Sayin had the biggest performance of the afternoon. The rising sophomore completed 17 of 24 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. By comparison, Keinholz had a slower start but picked up the pace in the second half, finishing with 12 completions from 18 attempts for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie QB Tavien St. Clair went 11 of 15 for 116 yards and a touchdown against two interceptions.
Sayin's lone passing score was a 26-yard throw to Purdue transfer tight end Max Klare in the first quarter. But he also led the offense on two other scoring drives in the opening half, with West Virginia transfer running back CJ Donaldson and freshman Bo Jackson also finding the endzone.
The exhibition capped off 15 practices for the defending national champions, who will begin the 2025 season at home against Texas on Aug. 30.
