New Iberia homicide investigation led to a car chase
NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) -- New Iberia police are investing a domestic related homicide that led to a vehicle pursuit, authorities said.
Earlier this morning at 9 a.m., officers responded to a welfare concern at a residence in the 200 block of Pollard Avenue where they discovered a deceased man, authories said.
During the investigation, officers said they found the vehicle that belong to the deceased man was not at the residence and proceeded to conduct a search in the area.
Around 10:19 a.m., officers located the vehicle on in the area West Main Street and Landry Drive. When authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated, authorities said.
The pursuit lasted several miles and ended on Poydras Place in Breaux Bridge where the vehicle was disabled. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody without further incident and has been identified as a relative of the deceased, police reported.
At this time, police said the incident is being investigated as a domestic related homicide and the individual in custody is a suspect.
Police said they will not release the names of the victim and suspect at this time.
