Fatal plane crash in the town of Copake
COPAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal plane crash in the town of Copake. The incident reportedly occurred near Two Town Road around noon on Saturday.
The plane crashed in the middle of an open field, Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore reported in a press conference on Saturday afternoon -- which you can watch in the video player above. Due to muddy conditions, accessing the scene has been difficult for emergency crews, officials said.
The Sheriff's Office declined to release any details on the number of fatalities, flight information or names at this time. No buildings were impacted and only one aircraft was involved, according to authorities.
Several agencies are reportedly on scene, including the Federal Aviation Administration, New York State Police and the coroner. An investigation into the crash is ongoing and is estimated to take a couple of days, authorities said.
Anyone who witnessed the plane crash, has video of the incident or any other information is encouraged to call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office at (518) 828-3344. NEWS10 will provide more information as it becomes available.
