Tottenham receive blow as manager target is set for new contract talks
Tottenham Hotspur have just been handed a blow in their pursuit of a Premier League manager, with a huge development expected over his future sooner rather than later.
Those who have followed Spurs Web’s coverage would be aware that a number of managers working in the English top-flight are now rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar as the North London club start doing their homework on a potential replacement for Ange Postecoglou.
It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Andoni Iraola is Tottenham’s top target while other sources have claimed that Spurs are also keeping an eye on both Marco Silva and Thomas Frank as backup options.
More recently, it emerged that Tottenham are also considering a shock move for Oliver Glasner, whose stock has grown since he replaced Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park last season.
Tottenham receive Oliver Glasner blow
However, Football Insider have now played down the chances of Glasner exiting Palace this summer as the Eagles look to make a late run towards European qualification.
The report says that despite interest from other clubs, the Austrian coach is ‘happy’ at the South London side and is willing to build on the foundations he has laid at the club.
In fact, it is alleged that Glasner and the Palace hierarchy are set to open talks over a new long-term contract soon, with both parties wanting to continue their relationship.
Spurs have an advantage over RB Leipzig in Glasner race
While this report suggests that Glasner is unlikely to exit Palace, rumours indicate that Spurs are well-placed to win the race for the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss this summer if he does decide to take up a new challenge.
Just a few days ago, a report from Germany claimed Tottenham are well placed to beat Leipzig to Glasner’s services, even though the Bundesliga club are very keen on appointing the 50-year-old as Marco Rose’s replacement.
The outlet explained that Spurs would be able to offer the Palace boss a much more lucrative contract than Leipzig and that the Australian coach might prefer to remain in England even if he parts ways with the Eagles.
