Brennan Johnson is modelling his game on four-time Premier League winner
Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson confirms that he has learned a lot from watching clips of a current Arsenal winger at the behest of his national team manager, Craig Bellamy.
Brennan Johnson can be a frustrating player to watch at times as Tottenham Hotspur fans and Wales supporters would both attest to.
The winger has shown that he can be deadly in the final third, especially given his ability to arrive at the back post and finish instinctually.
However, the 23-year-old does not offer as much on the ball, which is perhaps why Wales have often preferred to use him as an out-and-out striker rather than a wide-forward.
Brennan Johnson makes Raheem Sterling’s admission
Just a couple of days ago, Craig Bellamy revealed that he has made Johnson watch videos of Raheem Sterling’s goals to help him understand the kind of positions he can get into.
The Tottenham man has now admitted that he considers Sterling to be extremely underrated and confessed that he wants to reach the level of goal output that the former Man City man delivered during his prime years.
When asked about Bellamy’s comments about making him watch clips of Sterling, Johnson told Football.London: “Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed playing with Wales.
“I feel like we’re in a really good place at the minute, we have some players who are playing really well in the Premier League and at the highest level. The staff and the manager have been amazing, they give you little bits to watch.
“A few of the members of staff had worked with Raheem Sterling, so they kind of just wanted to pass on a message that they’d worked with him, which I was all ears for, to be honest.
“I feel like he’s an unbelievable player who’s had an amazing career, but doesn’t get the respect that he deserves. He scored so many goals in the Premier League and that’s something that I want to do as well.”
Johnson credits Tottenham teammates for his goals
The winger has now found the back of the net 13 times across all competitions this season and most of his goals have been similar, with Johnson producing a one-touch finish after getting on the end of crosses at the back post.
When asked about the fact that he has scored more one-touch goals this season, the Spurs man responded: “I think it’s more just the position that the lads had got me in that I don’t really need to take many touches to score. I’m very thankful for the great assists and the goals that I’ve been able to score.”
