Nearly 100 slot machines seized in Madison County illegal gambling investigation
LONDON, Ohio (WCMH) -- Approximately 100 slot machines were seized after the Madison County Sheriff's Office investigated two businesses suspected of illegal gambling.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office said it partnered with the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), and two businesses were searched Wednesday as part of an illegal gambling investigation.
A media release from the sheriff's office states the investigation began after multiple complaints were received about the business running illegal gaming machines, violating Ohio law. Four out of the five businesses investigated were in Ohio, and the fifth was operating out of Tennessee.
Two businesses operated out of Madison County, while the other two Ohio locations were in Champaign and Clark counties. According to the release, multiple agencies assisted in an operation that resulted in approximately 100 suspected illegal slot machines being seized.
"Illegal casinos operate outside of the law and will not be tolerated in our communities," said Madison County Sheriff John R. Swaney. "With the partnership of all involved law enforcement agencies working together, we were able to execute five search warrants simultaneously in holding accountable those who disregard Ohio's gaming laws."
The Madison County Sheriff's Office said an undetermined amount of cash and other property was also found during the investigation. A total of two arrests were made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
