Cedar Park has big first half to capture UIL 5A-DII girls soccer title
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Cedar Park jumped out to a two-goal lead in the opening 10 minutes, sailing to the UIL Class 5A-Division II girls soccer championship 3-1 over Frisco Wakeland on Friday at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
Cedar Park made the most of its opportunities, scoring on three of its four shots on goal. All of the Timberwolves' goals came in the first half, with Meredith Koltz scoring two. She kicked off the scoring at the 6:56 mark from assists by Alivia Towns and Blake Gilkey, and then Brooke Pack scored two minutes later to make it 2-0, also assisted by Towns.
Koltz made the lead 3-0 with her second goal at the 23:49 mark. Wakeland outshot the Timberwolves 13-7, including 10 in the second half. Cedar Park goalkeeper Jemma Hart had a terrific match with seven saves.
Wakeland's Lily McCalmont got the Wolverines on the board with an unassisted goal with 3:53 remaining.
Liberty Hill boys fall to Dallas Highland Park in 5A-DII final
Dallas Highland Park scored twice in the first half and held off Liberty Hill 2-0 to win the UIL Class 5A-Division II boys soccer championship.
The Panthers had five shots on goal, our bny midfielder Daniel Gutierrez, but couldn't put any past Highland Park goalkeeper Justin Ratner.
Angel Cardenas made six saves for the Panthers. Jack O'Grady and Hafeey Shah scored for the Scots with assists by Jake Rhine and Sebastian Benitez.
