Lafayette Police Sgt. Robin Green issued a news release Friday on the incident, which occurred while officers were providing security at a local establishment.
"Security personnel from the business had escorted an individual out of the premises, who then allegedly struck the security personnel/victim in the face with a closed fist." Green said. "When officers attempted to take the individual into custody, he actively resisted and did not comply with their instructions. Officers were able to handcuff him."
Green said the incident happened in the 300 block of Jefferson Street just before midnight Wednesday night. The suspect was charged with simple battery and resisting an officer. Further investigation revealed an active warrant for his arrest, officials said.
The release did not identify either the suspect or the officer.
