Registered sex offender charged with touching child in Schoharie County
SEWARD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police arrested a Seward man on Friday after a sex crime investigation involving a child. Joseph Hemmes, 39, faces multiple charges.
On March 11, State Police received a report of a 2024 sexual assault of a minor. During the investigation, detectives learned that Hemmes allegedly touched a child younger than 16 inappropriately at a home in Seward last summer.
Investigators also determined that Hemmes is a registered level two sex offender for previously being convicted of sexually assaulting children. Troopers took him into custody on April 11 and charged him with forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.
Hemmes was held at the Schoharie County Jail after being processed. He's scheduled to be arraigned at Schoharie County Centralized Part Court.
