The 1% Club contestants caught out by tricky sequence question – but can you spot it?

CONTESTANTS on The 1% Club were left caught out by a tricky word sequence question that was all down to the details on the show.

Lee Mack hosted another episode of his tough Saturday night quiz show this week on ITV; however, some questions really got the players’ minds racing.

One of the more notorious ones during the latest episode came in the form of the 45% question.

With a decent number of players still in the game and past the halfway mark, Lee read out the next tough question.

It said: “Which word continues the pattern to complete the sentence?”

The sentence offered up to the players then read: “Silly dummies running loose…”

Three answer options were then provided – wildly, happily and frequently.

They were then given 30 seconds on the clock to see if they could answer it correctly.

The tough question saw four players eliminated as they struggled to see a definitive pattern.

It was then revealed that the answer was Happily.

That answer was correct as a result of each word in the sentence using consecutive double letters.

All the words in the sentence contained the same letter repeated consecutively with “happily” being the only one of the three options to do the same as a result of the two P’s.

On The 1% Club, the contestants are whittled down as they attempt to make it to the end by answering questions with a time limit.

In the hope of winning £100,000, the last question would be something that only 1% of the country can get right.

One contestant who tried her luck at the game has now revealed how she nabbed a spot in the studio.

Heidi Phillips appeared on the show in January of this year and managed to last until the 30% question before being eliminated.

The 49-year-old saw an advert on social media for the show and as part of her application, had to record a video.

She explained: “I saw a post on Facebook and filled out the form and submitted a video audition telling them a little about myself. That was in June 2024.

“[At my audition] I tried to showcase my personality. I’ve worked as an entertainer before, so I’m good in front of people. I made silly jokes that if I won the prize, I’d spend it on opening a trifle sandwich shop.”

She encouraged potential contestants to not give ‘boring’ answers and instead reply with entertaining answers – something she said was noted by show bosses.
