Incredible plans for unique 120-bed ‘floating’ hotel in idyllic UK beauty spot revealed – yards from new aqua park

INCREDIBLE plans for a unique 120-bed hotel on water have been revealed – and it’s just yards away from a new aquatic park.

The giant floating hotel has been proposed for Cardiff Bay, Wales, in order to “enrich the city’s waterfront and elevate visitor experiences”.

Aqua Park has also announced it will be opening another site just a few miles south of its Cardiff location in May[/caption]

Since the structure is so large, the plan is in place to build it off-site and then deliver it to a dedicated spot in the heart of the redeveloped Roath Basin.

The floating hotel’s architecture has been described as combining “regional character with contemporary design”, and it aims to appeal to both leisure and business travellers.

Renders of the hotel show how the stunning modern structure would slot into the local area, sitting beside a park as it floats on the dock.

It would also lie just 1200 yards away from Aqua Park Cardiff, a popular children’s summer entertainment complex.

While the project is still in its early planning stages, there will be a close input from Cardiff Council, Associated British Ports, and local stakeholders to aid its progress.

A public consultation will also be held to gather feedback and help to shape the hotel’s final design, reports WalesOnline.

The open forum will also aim to conclude whether the project supports Cardiff’s long-term plans for waterfront development.

In terms of a timeline, the developers aim to have the project approved this year, ahead of the manufacturing of the hotel in 2026.

It then hopes to deliver, install, and open the floating hotel by 2027 at the earliest.

Project founders MEYER Floating Solutions and Morfield Floating Hotels have both said the project would provide minimal disruption to the local community and surrounding area.

They argue they would be able to achieve this as the manufacturing would be performed off-site, and the installation would not require a conventional construction site.

Kaj Casén, CEO of MEYER, which specialises in overwater real estate, said the project was about “more than accommodation”.

He called the plans “an experience that reflect the spirit of the city and its growing waterfront.”

The company has a rich history of developing high quality movable marine construction.

Most notably, it built the overwater terrace for the famous Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, UAE.

One resident in Cardiff Bay described the plans as intriguing and felt the hotel’s construction would help boost tourism and “spark curiosity in people.”

It’s part of a number of developments in the area, including Aqua Park Cardiff.

The children’s entertainment complex first opened in the bay six years ago, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors.

While the site temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it reopened for the following summer seasons.

The chain has also recently announced plans to open a new site in Penarth, just a few miles south of its Cardiff location.
