Route 35 in Sayreville closed due to large fire: officials
SAYREVILLE, N.J. (PIX11) – Route 35 is closed in both directions in the area near a large fire in Sayreville, New Jersey, Wednesday, police said.
The fire was first reported at a residential building at 2071 Route 35 South around 3:06 p.m., according to the Sayreville Police Department. The fire quickly spread to the neighboring Mavis Discount Tire facility, police said.
Multiple fire departments are at the scene battling the fire.
No occupants were in either building at the time of the fire, police said. No injuries have been reported.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Route 35 are completely closed to traffic in the area of the fire, police said.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes for their evening commute. Significant traffic delays are expected in surrounding areas, authorities said.
