Want FX buses on 82nd Ave? TriMet seeks public feedback on transit project
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – TriMet is seeking feedback on its proposed 82nd Avenue Transit Project.
It’s part of the transit agency’s effort to bring high-capacity bus service along SE 82nd Avenue to create fewer delays and keep buses on time between Clackamas Town Center and the Cully area.
The bus that currently serves the route, Line 72, has the highest ridership among TriMet’s lines. Officials believe the new Frequent Express (FX) line will improve travel times and provide better connections to jobs, shopping, schools, and more.
Last year, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded TriMet $39 million for the project.
So far, TriMet has consolidated existing bus stops, built curbs for easier boarding, added larger buses with three entrances, and allowed bikes on board — all in an effort to reduce delays while boarding.
“Even with these improvements, it may be harder for buses to stay on schedule as traffic congestion grows,” TriMet says. “The open houses will explore other transit-priority tools to keep buses moving, including bus lanes in key locations.”
TriMet will host an open house to hear your thoughts on Wednesday, April 23. It begins at 4 p.m. and is scheduled to last until 6:30 p.m. at the Portland Community College SE location on 82nd Avenue.
