Conspiracy theory emerges on Fabio Paratici amid Tottenham return rumours
Corriere dello Sport journalist Ivan Zazzaroni has now handed Tottenham Hotspur a major boost by revealing that Fabio Paratici will not be allowed to work in Italian football, thus boosting Spurs’ chances of re-hiring him in an official role.
The Italian has been working as a consultant for Tottenham over the last two years, but with his ban now about to elapse, it has been reported that Daniel Levy is keen to bring Paratici back to N17 in an official role.
It was initially reported that AC Milan were set to beat Spurs to Paratici’s signature, but the situation has changed completely over the last few days.
A number of Italian outlets are now claiming that Paratici’s move to Milan is now set to fall through as the legal obstacles are too high for the Rossoneri to appoint the former Juventus director, given his alleged past involvement in the Bianconeri’s capital gains scandal.
Journalist claims Italian authorities are stopping Paratici return
Ivan Zazzaroni has now claimed that Paratici and Milan had been locked in negotiations for months and that a contract was ready for the 52-year-old to join as the club’s sporting director.
However, he revealed that Italian football authorities then applied pressure against the appointment, asserting that the former Tottenham Hotspur managing director is not being allowed to work in his native country despite the expiration of his ban.
Zazzaroni told Canale 5 (as relayed by Calciomercato): “Paratici’s contract at Milan was ready, Paratici has the contract in his hand. There was pressure, very strong, it even reached the federal level, I say this very clearly.
“Paratici must not return to Italy and I would like to understand why, beyond the fact that he has certainly made mistakes, he has certainly been punished and his disqualification certainly ends on July 20.
“If someone who has been disqualified, once the disqualification is over, can no longer work in Italy, just say so. Add a note to the law and say that, if someone is disqualified in Italy, he can no longer return.
“There was more than a few phone calls to apply pressure. He can’t participate in the life of the club, but the consultant can. They’ve been negotiating for months.”
Will this pave the way for Fabio Paratici’s return to Tottenham?
The good news with this development is that Tottenham need not cut ties with Paratici right now and can continue to call on his services as a consultant ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
This development could potentially make it easier for Levy to bring the Italian back to the club in the official role, with Milan no longer offering competition.
However, one does wonder what sort of role the Spurs chairman envisages for Paratici, given that the club already have a technical director and chief football officer in place.
