Lead Scotland Visit
On Saturday, we welcomed young carers and befrienders from Lead Scotland, thanks to a fantastic day arranged by our Community Foundation and their Health and Wellbeing Lead, Kev Barretto.
Lead Scotland is a national charity supporting disabled people and carers by providing personalised learning, befriending, advice and information services.
Their befriending service for young carers aged 12-18 allows the young people to have a break from their caring responsibilities, a perfect fit with RRCF’s commitment to social inclusion and improving community health and wellbeing.
Most of the young carers and befrienders had never previously been to a game so did not know what to expect.
However, after a warm welcome from Jack Hamilton and Callum Smith, they all looked excited and happy to pose for photos and be a part of the Rovers matchday experience.
Councillor Judy Hamilton also took time to meet and greet our guests, and after more photos they were soon gleefully tucking into their Stuart’s pies before kick-off.
At full time, everyone said they enjoyed the game and atmosphere as well as Dylan Easton’s spectacular ‘Goal of the Season’ strike.
After litter picking in the away end, the young carers were delighted to collect autographs and have their pictures taken with many Rovers players.
It was a cracking day chatting and litter picking with the youngsters, who all seemed to thoroughly enjoy their experience.
The Community Foundation would like to thank all of the Rovers staff and players who were friendly, welcoming and accommodating, and helped make it a day the young carers will never forget being part of the Rovers community.
