Many Kansans are declining Real IDs as deadline approaches
TOPEKA (KSNT) - There's less than one month before enforcement of the Real ID Act begins and some people in Kansas have yet to get on board with it.
The Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) reports that most Kansans have theirs, but it appears not everyone is complying with the act.
As of Tuesday, April 8, more than 1.9 million people have their Real IDs in Kansas. However, KDOR says more than 350,000 Kansans have declined one. Starting May 7 this year, you'll need either a Real ID or a passport to enter federal facilities, commercial air ports or nuclear power plants.
After several delays to the deadline, a KDOR spokesman tells 27 News he doesn't foresee any more pushbacks.
If you want to get yours, you can still obtain one later, but you can't fly domestically until then. If you have questions or want additional information on the Real ID, click here.
