Arrest made in Niskayuna stabbing investigation
NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Niskayuna Police reported an arrest was made on Tuesday after a stabbing investigation. Kwate Edgerton, 31, was charged with first-degree assault.
On April 7 just before 8:30 p.m., police responded to a home on St. Joseph Drive in Niskayuna following reports of a person brandishing a weapon. Arriving officers found a man with stab wounds to the chest.
The victim was taken by emergency responders to Albany Medical Center for treatment. Police stated the man is listed in stable condition.
During the ensuing investigation, Edgerton was identified as a suspect, with witnesses telling police that he was acquainted with residents of the home. After learning the suspect had already fled the scene, seemingly heading toward Schenectady, Niskayuna Police conducted a search of the area alongside a Schenectady County Sheriff's Office K9 unit, but didn't find Edgerton.
On April 8 around 2:35 a.m., police were alerted that Edgerton had returned to the home. Officers once again responded to the St. Joseph Drive residence and took him into custody.
Niskayuna Police stated that Edgerton may face further charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
