Latest 2025 NFL Draft Intel Presents ‘Harsh Reality’ For Patriots
It seemed like the Patriots would have the dream scenario with the No. 4 pick, but the 2025 NFL Draft might not go how they want it to.
New England’s dream would be to select either Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter with its first-round selection. They are considered the top two prospects in the class, and one could feasibly fall to fourth overall if two quarterbacks were taken with two of the top three picks.
All eyes are on the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants because neither has a long-term answer at QB, but does that mean they would take one with the second or third pick, respectively?
The Athletic’s Chad Graff asked his colleagues that question, and the answers were troubling for the Patriots.
“There’s almost no chance the Browns are taking a quarterback at No. 2. The door remains cracked because of the team’s desperate need and because the front office is still finalizing its draft plan,” Browns reporter Zac Jackson told Graff. “But the Browns have come to the realization that Ward is likely to go No. 1 and their best option will be either Carter or Hunter. They will then resume their quarterback search either later Thursday night via trade or at some point Friday.”
Graff also spoke to Giants reporter Charlotte Carroll, who believed it’s “less likely” New York uses the No. 3 pick on a quarterback.
That wasn’t welcome news for New England, and Graff described the situation as a “harsh reality.” The most likely pick for the Patriots would be offensive tackle Will Campbell. Left tackle is one of the team’s biggest needs, and he is the top-rated tackle in the class.
The questions around Campbell, specifically is arm length, won’t make it an inspired pick. However, the Patriots might not get the selection they most desire.
