19-year-old found guilty of murder for 2023 shooting
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 19-year-old Buffalo man was found guilty of murder in the shooting death of a 21-year-old in August 2023, the Erie County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday.
A jury found Jakai Lofton guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Quban Romell Najee Embry. Lofton shot Embry multiple times on the front porch of a home on the 200 block of Shirley Avenue on Aug. 12, 2023. Embry died at the scene.
Jurors announced their decision last Friday following a five-day trial and 90 minutes of deliberations.
Lofton's co-defendant, 19-year-old Anthony Borden, pleaded guilty last November to one count of first-degree manslaughter. His sentencing still has not been scheduled and he is being held without bail.
As for Lofton, he faces up to 40 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on May 19. He is also being held without bail.
