I’m constantly trolled over my kids’ unique names – people say they won’t get jobs & even the midwife questioned me
A DEFIANT mum has hit back at trolls who say her kids will never get jobs thanks to their unique names.
Lauren Hair has been told her children will be bullied and their CVs would get binned as adults due to their unusual monikers.
She fell in love with the name Bart for her three-year-old son and Binky for her six-month-old daughter thanks to two chance encounters.
But she says the backlash over the monikers has been “insane”.
Binky’s name was inspired by a Made in Chelsea cast member after Lauren’s partner met her on a day out in London.
Alexandra Felstead is known by her nickname Binky on the show.
Lauren says the 34-year-old reality TV star was “lovely” and she wanted to name their daughter after someone nice.
The dance teacher chose Bart after she spotted a bus going to St Bartholomew’s Cathedral in London.
But trolls branded her “selfish” for choosing such unique baby names and claimed that she was subjecting the tots to a lifetime of bullying.
“The comments have been insane, people say their CVs will get thrown in the bin,” Lauren, of Inverclyde, Scotland, said.
“Those people shouldn’t be in a role of importance but hopefully those people will be retired by the time Bart and Binky are looking for jobs.
“People were saying they’ll be bullied but no wonder if these people are parents, this is where children learn it from.
“They were saying Binky is good for a baby but not an adult. I think granny Binky sounds cute.”
The dance teacher said even friends and family asked her to reconsider the name Binky before she was born – as well as the midwife in hospital.
“I’ve taught girls with every name under the sun.
“If you know people with a name, you associate that name with that person. We really wanted to name her after someone nice.
“My partner met Binky from Made in Chelsea when he was working in London.
“She was lovely and a really nice person.
“Even the nurse asked if we were sure about the name when she was born.
“When I mentioned the name to my family they asked if I was sure because it is an unusual name but when she was born I knew she was a Binky.
“She is her name. It suits her so much.”
Lauren says her own name is “common” and she wanted to try something unique for her own children.
She added: “My name is so common. There were five Laurens in my school.
“I’d rather have a unique name but everyone is different.
“The people making the comments don’t have their own name or picture so they’re hiding behind the internet.
“It has made me love the name even more.”
Banned names in the UK
The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles, or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.
