Madonna Reveals She Made Amends With Elton John After Their Decades-Long Feud: 'Forgiveness Is a Powerful Tool'
After over 20 years, the long-running feud between Madonna and Elton John has finally ended!
On Instagram, the Queen of Pop announced the news alongside a picture of them sharing a sweet side hug.
“We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!!” the “Like a Virgin” singer celebrated in the caption. “I went to see @eltonjohn perform on SNL this weekend!! WOW.”
Madonna then continued her caption by looking back at when she first learned of John and his music. “I remember when I was in high school – I snuck out of the house one night to see Elton perform live in Detroit!” she wrote. “It was an unforgettable performance that helped me understand the transformative power of music.”
“Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life,” she continued. “I had always felt like an outsider growing up and watching him on stage helped me to understand that it was OK to be different-to stand out- to take the road less traveled by. In fact, it was essential.”
Years later, however, John and Madonna’s officially began in 2002 when John said that Madonna’s song “Die Another Day” was “the worst Bond tune ever” and that the track “hasn’t got a tune,” per Billboard. Tensions then continued to escalate with jabs at one another ever since.
“Over the decades, it hurt me to know that someone I admired so much shared his dislike of me publicly as an artist,” Madonna admitted in the caption. “I didn’t understand it.”
But, like the age-old saying “time heals old wounds,” Madonna and John no longer wanted to continue their feud in 2025. So she went to support him at Saturday Night Live this week where he performed with Brand Carlisle.
“I needed to go backstage and confront him,” she said. “When I met him, the first thing out of his mouth was, ‘Forgive me,’ and the wall between us fell down.”
“Forgiveness is a powerful tool,” she reflected. “Within minutes. We were hugging. Then he told me had written a song for me and he wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!!”
In the comment section, fans of Madonna are understandably over the moon by their reconciliation. “Literally the modern day Treaty of Versailles,” wrote one fan. “Forgiveness can save the world, Queen!” echoed another user. “What a beautiful story! ❤️”
On John’s Instagram, the “Your Song” reposted their snap on Instagram Story. “A healing moment, @madonna ❤️,” he wrote. Looks like their fight is water under the bridge now!
