Toms and Rocky Barnes Celebrate the Iconic Alpargata Silhouette in New Spring Campaign
Toms teamed up with Los Angeles influencer Rocky Barnes for a celebration of its popular Alpargata silhouette. The model and her family—made up of her husband Matt and their two sons, Jones and Charlie—are starring in the brand’s spring 2025 campaign that shows the Alpargata is not just worn, they are lived in.
Barnes has made a name for herself in the world of boho-luxe fashion, as an entrepreneur, designer and creative director. And for Toms’ latest campaign, she is inviting fans into her sun-drenched California home—making it the perfect backdrop to capture her and her family in the quiet, candid moments of their life, while wearing some of the brand’s latest designs.
“Rocky’s take on the pioneering style reflects Toms’ philosophy: laid-back, LA roots and shoes that are made for the modern family,” the brand said in a statement. “Perfect for sun-soaked adventures to quiet mornings at home, Rocky’s campaign platforms the classic Alpargata as well as the silhouettes within the Alpargata family.”
A symbol of effortless style and everyday ease, the slip-on shoe has been around for years, becoming integral in people’s everyday lives. Season after season, the shoe evolves with fresh colors, textures and details. While the company has focused its efforts on evolving the silhouette and diversifying its product lineup, the Alpargata continues being its most recognizable product thanks to its low profile, easy to wear slip-on and lace-free design.
The new collection features some of those new iterations of the shoe, including the platform Valencia, the Carolina lace-up shoe, the Alpargata rope shoe and more. The Valencia ($90) redefines the traditional Espadrilles. The slip-on stands tall on a rope-wrapped platform with intricate basket-weave and canvas uppers. They are finished with CloudBound insoles that aim to provide plush, all-day comfort.
The Carolina Lace-Up ($80) features fray detailing, a rope-wrapped platform and oversized laces that add playfulness to the design. Toms says the Alpargata Plus ($55) is their most comfortable Alpargata yet. The minimalist take on a timeless classic features a roomy fit, sleek uppers and ultra-light CloudBound insoles.
The Alpargata sparked a movement, which led the shoe company to be best known for their canvas slip-on designs. The style was inspired by the Argentinian alpargata after Toms founder Blake Mycoskie took a trip to the South American country in 2006. He was inspired by the amount of barefoot children he came across and launched the company with a “buy one, give one” initiative, where the company donated a pair of shoes for every pair sold.
