'Could see a recession': One of Trump's top cheerleaders at Fox gives him a warning
Fox News' Maria Bartiromo, one of President Donald Trump's key cheerleaders on the network, acknowledged on Monday amid the latest panicked selloff of stocks on Wall Street that the United States could be heading for a recession if Trump's tariffs proceed as they currently are.
Trump has imposed a 10 to 49 percent new import tax on foreign goods from practically everywhere in the world, even singling out obscure, isolated islands with negligible trade with the U.S., and in at least one case a chain of volcanic islands off the coast of Antarctica with a population of zero. The result has been chaos and uncertainty not just in U.S. markets but around the world.
Bartiromo, who was notorious for promoting Trump's false claims about election fraud in 2020 based on "evidence" from a woman who claimed to have discovered it through time travel, admitted the economic danger as the network displayed a real-time falling stock ticker symbol right next to her.

"It is going to have an effect on Main Street," said Bartiromo. "Some things will become higher priced. We will see some products actually be raised in price because companies will pass on the cost of tariffs to consumers. I would expect that."
"That's why you have some people saying that we could see a recession, we'll see a growth slowdown," Bartiromo continued. "This morning, Nancy Lazar, who I follow very closely and I think she's terrific, from Piper Sandler — she says, if the tariffs stay in place for at least the next six months, even if only 50 percent of the price shocks where we're seeing products go higher in price, show through the economy, U.S. real GDP is on track to decline about 1 percent in the second quarter and in the third quarter, with unemployment rising."
Trump, for his part, has demanded investors and lawmakers stop being "stupid" about his tariffs, dismissing his conservative critics with his newly-coined insult of "Panicans" in a Truth Social post on Monday morning.
