Devin Booker Broke Out Two Exclusive Versions of His Nike Sneaker at MSG — and Gave One to Spike Lee
If Madison Square Garden is basketball’s Mecca, Devin Booker didn’t take his visit Sunday night lightly.
Booker broke out not one but two player-exclusive versions of his Nike Book 1 for the Phoenix Suns’ game against the New York Knicks. During warm-ups, both him and PJ Tucker donned the latter’s “What The” PE, which features a patent leather upper with an array of colors mismatched across the two sneakers and his no. 17 on the heel spine.
For the game itself, Booker wore another edition of his signature sneaker inspired by the Air Force 1 Mid “NYC Jewel” from 1987. Just like its source material, the newer shoe boasts a navy pebbled leather to go along with an orange jewel Swoosh. Nike’s varsity leather NYC logo then appears just below the bottom of the medial eyestay.
After the game, the Suns star gave his New York City tribute sneaker to Spike Lee.
Nike rereleased the “NYC Jewel” Air Force 1s in 2012 for the model’s 30th anniversary, and the colorway later inspired a duo of AF1 Mids in 2022 with the same jewel Swoosh and NYC mark, with one modeled after the New York Yankees with a pinstripe sockliner.
Tucker getting a PE for the Book 1 shouldn’t come as a big surprise, as the NBA’s undisputed sneaker king has been a big supporter of the signature sneaker. He’s worn a number of other player-exclusives on the court throughout the season and has even donned some before even Booker himself.
In all likelihood, neither the Nike Book 1 “What The PJ Tucker” nor the Nike Book 1 “NYC Jewel” will release to the public. Footwear News will keep you updated should that change.
