‘Let’s satisfy the people’: J Prince talks about making a fight between Shakur and Tank
Shakur Stevenson’s manager J Prince says a fight against Gervonta Davis is what the people want to see.
Shakur Stevenson’s boxing manager J Prince spends some time talking to Fight Hub TV about plans for Shakur’s return, negative feedback about his style, and the potential for making a big fight with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis — whom Prince would like to someday represent but apparently doesn’t even know his name.
On when we can expect to see Shakur Stevenson back in the ring
“We looking forward to fighting this year. The date hasn’t been solidified yet but we’re hoping sometime this summer, with Zepeda if possible.
“If everybody honor the word that has already been put out there then there shouldn’t be a problem. I take a man at his word until he show me something different so we just waiting on the honor of the word all the way around.”
On Floyd Schofield pulling out of the Stevenson fight at the last minute
“That whole situation was a clown show on the Schofield people side. They came up with all types of reasons and excuses prior to the fight to kind of let us know they wasn’t fighting but I didn’t want to believe it.”
On fans who criticize Stevenson’s style of fighting
“Those of us who understand the true science of boxing, the art of hit and don’t get hit, we can appreciate Shakur Stevenson. I remember people felt the same way about Floyd Mayweather and we know how that ended. The guy ended up being one of the biggest PPV stars ever. So people have their opinion, they have a right to like what they like and not like what they don’t like. I’m not criticizing that but as far as the true art and science of boxing, he’s special, special.”
On how difficult it is to make a fight between Stevenson and Tank
“I don’t think it’s really difficult to make, I think the people involved just have to want to make the fight. Once everybody are like minded with making the fight, beginning with Devonte — once Devonte say ‘ok, I’m going to run my own career, I’m going to be my own man and I’m gonna get this money’ because there ain’t no loser in that fight. They payday on that fight, ain’t no loser.
“...ya’ll the two the world want to see so let’s satisfy the people and let’s not put our tails in our ass no kind of way and let’s handle business because I look forward to working with Devonte someday so I want to get this one over with so I can befriend him and take him to the next level.”
