Penticton, BC – The Penticton Vees have posted back-to-back shutout wins to open their series with the Okotoks Oilers, after their 5-0 win Sunday afternoon, at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The Vees now lead the best-of-seven Interior Conference Quarterfinal series 2-0.
On the heels of a 4-0 Game One win Thursday, the script was nearly an identical in Game Two. Luke Posthumus and Tristan Petersen each scored twice, and Simon Meier had the other Vees’ goal. Ryden Evers had three assists and Conyr had a pair of helpers.
Ethan Buenaventura, in his first playoff start for Penticton, turned aside all 14 shots he faced for the clean sheet. Sunday was his first start since March 15th, after he recovered from a nagging lower body injury in the final two weeks of the regular season.
The Vees have now outscored the Oilers 9-0 through two games and have outshot them 78-33.
After a scoreless first period, Meier opened the scoring 1:19 into the second period to put the Vees ahead 1-0. Meier scored on a rebound after Ryden Evers was stopped on a four-on-two rush. Meier’s second goal in as many games.
Go to the net, good things happen!
Simon Meier does just that and jams home a rebound to give Penticton a 1-0 lead in Game 2.

Fitting Meier opened the scoring after he hit the post and crossbar in the first period. That chance went to video review, but it was ruled the puck stayed out.
Posthumus doubled Penticton’s lead midway through the second after his shot from the win squeezed through arm of Oilers’ goaltender Olivier Ciarlo. Conyr Hellyer forced a turnover just outside the Oilers’ zone, before he fed Posthumus who scored from the bottom of the circle. His first of the playoffs came at 12:24 to make it 2-0.
In the third, Penticton quickly stretched their lead on two goals in 81 seconds. First, Posthumus made it 3-0 with his second of the game at 3:37. Hellyer once again took the puck away from Okotoks and fed Posthumus, who scored over the blocker of Ciarlo.
Then it was Petersen getting his first of two on the night at 4:59 that made it 4-0. The Danish forward, with his back to the goal and covered by two Oilers, managed to muscle the puck to the net on his forehand, which then went off a skate and post to deflect in.
Petersen’s second of the period came just past the 11-minute mark that capped off the scoring. Evers forced a turnover along the wall and then poked the puck to Petersen, who cut to the middle and made a quick backhand deke to beat Ciarlo at 11:16.
