How Daniel Levy could influence Cristian Romero’s Tottenham future
Fabrizio Romano has now weighed in on the rumours linking Cristian Romero with a Tottenham summer exit, suggesting that Daniel Levy could potentially have a big part to play.
It has been widely reported over recent days that Romero is ready to join Atletico Madrid in the summer after recently speaking with Deigo Simeone regarding the possibility.
The Tottenham vice-captain enters the final two years of his contract this June and Spurs’ efforts to tie Romero down to a new deal have been unsuccessful.
It has been rumoured that Tottenham are now ready to listen to offers for Romero this summer despite previously adopting a hardline stance on the player.
Fabrizio Romano issues Daniel Levy warning to Cristian Romero’s suitors
Based on the rumours doing the rounds, it would seem that the Argentine has already set his heart on an exit from Spurs.
Just a couple of days ago, one outlet claimed that Romero has told his agent that he wants to move to Spain after Atletico stepped up their interest.
However, Romano has now warned the La Liga club as well as the Tottenham centre-back’s other suitors that striking a deal with Daniel Levy could prove very challenging.
When asked if the World Cup winner could leave Spurs, the Italian journalist told GiveMeSport: “It’s a possibility but not something guaranteed as it depends on Daniel Levy.
“We know how strong Spurs are in negotiations. So it’s something possible, definitely; but it has to be an important financial package or Levy won’t accept anything.”
Tottenham keep their lips sealed on Romero
Despite all that is being said and written about Romero, we have seen very little pushback from Tottenham, with the club not using their contacts in the media to deny these reports.
In fact, when asked directly about the centre-back’s future, Ange Postecoglou simply insisted that Romero is focused on the upcoming games.
That will hardly fill Spurs fans with any confidence, particularly as the club have been unable to tie down the defender to a new deal.
