'There are other options’: Fabrizio Romano doubtful about United signing £63m star
Manchester United may miss out on signing Napoli-owned striker Victor Osimhen this summer.
The English giants are in the market for a new centre-forward due to their ongoing struggles in front of goal. Osimhen is among the players on their radar.
The 26-year-old is widely expected to leave Napoli this summer following a breakdown in his relationship with the club. His release clause is £63 million.
Fabrizio Romano (via YouTube) has claimed that signing Osimhen would be costly for United, with the club likely shifting attention to other targets.
He said: “The interest is still there, but nothing is guaranteed because it is expensive, and they have other options, including Liam Delap. United will sign a striker, but there is no guarantee it will be Osimhen.
“There are other options around the world for the striker position, including Saudi Arabia. Al Ahli almost agreed on a deal to sign Osimhen a year ago before everything collapsed due to Napoli, not the player.
“It is important to see what happens. Osimhen still wants his salary guaranteed, which will be a key factor. Timing will also be crucial, as Napoli want to sell him as soon as possible to raise funds and reinvest — that is their goal.”
United appear to have shifted focus to alternative targets. Internal discussions have taken place regarding a move for Delap.
The Ipswich Town striker has been one of the breakout stars in the Premier League this season despite playing for one of the league’s poorest teams.
United have also been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, valued at £68m. However, they may opt against signing the Frenchman due to his high price tag.
