Family of slain Ville Platte man spoke out after his death
VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY)- The family of 31-year-old Cawaskee Ardoin told News 10 they are heartbroken over his death. Ardoin was killed in a shooting late Wednesday night.
The Ville Platte Police Department said they were called to the Gabriel Villa Apartments around 8:30 Wednesday night. After arriving on the scene, authorities said they found Ardoin dead with gunshot wounds.
Ardoin left behind his 6-year-old daughter with his girlfriend, Dutchess Thomas. Thomas told News 10 it will be difficult to have a conversation with their daughter about her father passing away.
"They took somebody who mean the world to my daughter, and that is so hurtful, because I don't even know the words to tell my own child," said Thomas. "That's the main thing, nobody deserves to be left useless, so for the family the question is why."
Ardoin's loved ones tell me they will always remember Cawaskee for being a loving father to his daughter and a person who brought a smile to everyone he came across. Melinda LaFleur, Cawaskee's cousin, said the family plans to remember him by embodying the values he lived by--love and genorosity.
"That's all we can do is show love, that's it, cause all he did was show love, so all I'm trying to do is show love and give back to the community," said LaFleur.
Thomas told News 10 she also lost her brother to gun violence last March. She urges the community to put the guns down.
"Last year in March I lost my brother to the same thing and we still fighting for justice, so all I'm saying to the community is we all have to come together," said Thomas.
This investigation remains ongoing and authorities said they have not yet named any possible suspects in the shooting.
If anyone has any information about this investigation, they are ask to call Ville Platte Police Department at 337-363-1313.
